5.0 out of 5 stars better grill than its big 200 square inch brother, July 18, 2008

This review is from: Sanyo HPS-SG2 Indoor Barbeque Grill with 120-Square-Inch Nonstick Cooking Surface (Kitchen)
I have the larger Sanyo electric grill and it is great, just a little too big for my kitchen counter. (it is out in my RV, working great) But this baby is just right for my kitchen.

It has a little less wattage than the bigger model but actually seems to heat up a little faster. I like the design of the grilling surface better than the design of the bigger unit (deeper grooves, and a good lip around the edge). I like the water tray that is black instead of aluminum in color, and it is easier to remove and pour the little amount of water out (1/2 cup of water is used to keep the smoke down).

My cooking routine is to set it up, pour a 1/2 cup water into the tray, spray a little canola oil on the grill, turn the control up to high to pre-heat for about 3 minutes, then slap the seasoned steak, burger, chicken, ribs, etc. on the grill. I sear in some good grill marks on each side, then turn the heat down to medium and finish cooking at a slower pace, depending... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not be happier - LOVE it!!, September 5, 2008
This review is from: Sanyo HPS-SG2 Indoor Barbeque Grill with 120-Square-Inch Nonstick Cooking Surface (Kitchen)
At 120 square inches, we wondered if the larger, 200 inch model might make more sense. But we're two people and rarely serve guests; so, the size and energy savings are perfect. We loved the grill we wore out before we ordered this, but this has a lighter weight cook surface, which makes for faster heating (more energy savings! :-)) and easier handling for cleaning. The non-stick surface is gr8 - washes up easily; whereas, we used our pressure washer on our last grill. We like the removable drip pan, which is easy to wrap in foil to avoid that nasty cleaning job. We did not believe that we could possibly like anything as well as our previous unit, but we like this grill sooooo much better that we don't even remember who manufactured the last one. We hope this lasts as long!

This grill is truly smokeless and very easy to clean as advertised. Cooks a little slower then an outdoor grill and doesn't give you that true grill taste, but is still a wonderful addition to my kitchen. Would highly recommend.

Amazon.com Review

Grilling really can't get much easier than this. After assembling the grill (which takes only a few minutes), simply plug it in and allow about 10 minutes to fully preheat the surface while you gather your steaks, kebabs, or whatever's to be grilled. The electric heat has an adjustable range from low (for keeping food warm) to high (for searing steaks). The nonstick grill surface not only means you can use a minimum of added fat, but it also makes cleanup a cinch. The surface has a subtle slope, with channels that draw accumulated fat or other liquids into a tray just below the surface. The high domed and vented lid helps create a circular flow of hot air to ensure even cooking--particularly important for a large roast or whole chicken.

The grill can be placed either directly on a tabletop or atop its pedestal. On its own, the grill surface stands about 6 inches high; with the pedestal, it stands about 2-1/2 feet high, not counting the domed lid. The pedestal is plenty sturdy for cooking, but the grill still seems a bit top-heavy, so pay special attention if grilling in a high-traffic area or near kids. Because of the easy electric heat, this grill can be used outdoors or indoors--when using it indoors, though, be prepared for potential spattering, steam, or other side effects of cooking. --Cynthia Nims

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for an ELECTRIC grill, March 22, 2005

This review is from: George Foreman Indoor-Out- Door Electric Bbq Grill 17.5" D 240 Sq. In. (Kitchen)
Before I get into this review, we have to understand the product we are looking at: a George Foreman ELECTRIC grill. George Foreman products are essentially useful variations of hotplates. In this case, the hot plate takes the form of a grill (with a stand, a dome cover, a large cooking surface with raised grooves etc...).

That being said, this product caters to people (me) willing to try a product that is not a traditional charcoal grill, could be useful in smaller spaces/porches, looks like it is easy to use and clean up, could potentially cut some fat (never hurts, right?), and seems like it will work well as a good back-up grill or a quick solution to throwing mini-bbqs requiring even heat distribution without the hassle of buying/lighting/dumping coal. If that's you, then read on...

Here, I'll try my best to outline the grill's pros and cons, as well as do a quick, inevitable comparison it to a traditional charcoal grill.

5.0 out of 5 stars backup grill, November 15, 2000

This review is from: George Foreman Indoor-Out- Door Electric Bbq Grill 17.5" D 240 Sq. In. (Kitchen)
Originally I saw my mother's George Forman grill (smaller indoor one with lid). Then I saw my brother's Party Size grill. Both of them love their grill. I was able to taste the food from both and found it very tasty and easy to use. I decided to do some investigating on my own intending to purchase the party size grill, when I saw the indoor/outdoor grill. I was impressed with the fact that it appeared to be a bigger cooking surface and the price I found was within reason. I purchased it for the purpose of using it as an extra grill for a cookout I was having. No one used the gas grill at all. I have since used it indoors without the stand, making it convient on rainy days. It is the easiest grill to use and clean that we have ever owned. You can cook everything evenly, because there are no coals to level out. It can easily hold 4 to 5 steaks, 10 big hamburgers, and the list goes one. I am sure there are some drawbacks to those that swear by gas/charcoal grills, but my gas... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars George is right. It actually does what he claims it will do!, December 1, 2002

This review is from: George Foreman Indoor-Out- Door Electric Bbq Grill 17.5" D 240 Sq. In. (Kitchen)
I bought this grill 4 months ago and have used it several times per week ever since. I am a very lazy cook with 3 hungry teens and a hubby who eats like he's a heavyweight boxer. So, I needed something that would cook and clean-up as easily as possible. I can turn on the grill (it has an adjustable thermostat), take out a package of frozen chicken, hamburger patties, whatever, prepare it as usual, and the grill is ready to go to work. Dinner is on the table in no time. Its non-stick surface is just that, making clean-up simple and quick.
I am quite happy with the surface area, as I can easily fit 8 large burgers on at once. I live in the frozen north, so the fact that this grill will also work indoors is plus.
It's portable, reliable, easy to use and clean, and a bargain compared to other outdoor grills.
George put his name on a very good product.
Update: I have owned this grill for 2 1/2 years now and it still works like new!

4.0 out of 5 stars Like Barbequeing only better, June 10, 2009
This review is from: Sanyo HPS-SG4 Extra-Large Indoor Barbecue Grill and Griddle (Kitchen)
I really like this grill. I found it to be particulary good for searing fish and really like the smoke free feature. I was a little skeptical of the smoke free feature however it really does do a good job of cooking with little-to-no smoke. I really found the griddle to be very useful as I love sauteed mushrooms on burgers and the griddle and grill together are quite conducive for this type of cooking. Having one place to grill and griddle is very handy for eggs and sausage or bacon for breakfast too. For someone who lives in an apartment wihout an outdoor area for barbequeing (like myself) this is a great alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great grill, October 16, 2009

This review is from: Sanyo HPS-SG4 Extra-Large Indoor Barbecue Grill and Griddle (Kitchen)
I received this grill a few days ago and have used it twice.
The first night I grilled porterhouse steaks and they came out beautifully. The nice feature of the grill is the temperature control; you can sear a steak at 400 degrees and then turn the temperature down. Really makes a difference; steaks were tender and juicy.
Next I tried burgers. Came out great. Cooked them well done and they were still flavorful and juicy cooking at 325 degrees.
I previously had a George Forman and this grill is far better. In my opinion the problem with the Forman is that everything is cooked very quickly at 400 degrees; meat was often dry because of this. This grill is not as fast as a Forman but it is definately worth the wait. I think I'm going to use this a lot.
